Eliud Kipsang, a sophomore at Alabama, won the men's invitational elite section of the 1,500 meters in a world-leading 3:33.74 to achieve a new collegiate record at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Cougar Stadium at Azusa Pacific University. Kipsang eclipsed the mark of 3:34.68 achieved last year by Yared Nuguse of Notre Dame. It marked the second time the collegiate 1,500 record had been set at the Bryan Clay Invitational in the past five years, along with Josh Kerr of New Mexico clocking 3:35.01 in 2018.
