Portland junior Jeff Thies won the second-fastest section of the men's 1,500 meters in a personal-best 3:41.11 at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University. Thies improved his personal best from 3:42.98 last year to finish ninth overall behind the top eight finishers in the fast section, with all nine athletes running faster than the previous meet and stadium records 3:41.17 set in 2012.
